Senior Minister Job Description
General Vision of the Role
We seek an individual, called of God and gifted by God to join hands with the body of Tigard Christian Church, who can:
Inspire a shared vision, challenge the processes, enable others to participate and lead, model discipleship, and encourage the heart for Christ that we may bear much fruit and glorify God.
Qualifications
- Qualities of an elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-13, 1Peter 5:1-14, Titus 1: 5-9
- Affirms and agrees with Tigard Christian Church Statement of the Essentials
of the Christian faith:
The Authority of Scripture: We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired
word of God. The Old and New Testaments are the fully reliable and
authoritative account of God's activity in human history and of his perfect will
for humankind.
The Nature of God: We believe in one God, who has revealed himself in three
persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus, God's Son: We believe that Jesus is the Son of the Living God (Matt. 16:16). He is uniquely revealed as God in the flesh (John 1:14). His is the only name given to us by whom we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus and in his resurrection from the grave on the third day. Saved by God's Grace: We believe that all of humanity has become separated from God through sin. We are saved by God's grace and restored to him through faith in Jesus, our primary response including turning from sin, claiming Jesus as our Lord, and being immersed (baptized) into Christ.
The Role of the Church: We believe that the church is the living body of Christ called by God to continue his work in the world. In the church we share life and ministry together through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Lord's Supper (communion) is a regular part of our public worship, demonstrating our faith in Jesus and his death for our sins.
Desired Outcomes of Ministry
Understanding that a minister must serve the Lord's Church according to one’s giftedness by the Spirit, we seek an overall ministry that yields the following outcomes:
- Effective, evangelistic preaching which points the way to Christ and to the service of Him.
- Leadership for the works the Lord has for His Church.
- Clear and consistent communication of the vision for this congregation- Loving God, loving others, and making disciples of all nations.
- Members of the church body serving according to their spiritual gifts.
- An empowered, mentored, and encouraged leadership team.
- The identification and development of leaders within the church body.
- Ceremonies in the church, such as weddings and funerals, are conducted in a way that glorifies God.
- Personal calls to members and the lost are made at times that are appropriate. The church body cares for one another.
- Those that are in crisis or in need of Christian care are provided for by the appropriate member(s) of the church body.
- An available and accessible leadership team.
- A church body that reaches into aspects of the local community in the name of Christ.
- A leadership that is committed to growing spiritually and is a living resource to the church body.
- A strong and growing ministry of "smaller groups" that study scripture and care for one another.
