Job Description

Bethany Community Church, a fast-growing non-denominational church in Seattle, WA, is seeking a full-time Pastor of Children’s Ministry.




Purpose:



To serve Bethany Community church through the development and oversight of ministries that attract children and families to Bethany, educate children in the Christian faith, inspire children to take up a life of service, and promote friendships between the children at Bethany and their teachers.



Areas of responsibility:


- Cast and implement a vision for Children’s Ministry that reflects the mission and core values of Bethany Community Church

- Oversee all ministries at Bethany designed for children from birth through sixth grade, including but not limited to:


* Nursery, Preschool, and K-6 Sunday School

* Mid-week programs, including Pioneer Club and MOPPETS

* Summer activities, such as Vacation Bible School and Elementary Camp

* Family activities and quarterly events


- Lead, mentor, and support Children’s Ministry staff and interns

- Inspire, recruit, and encourage key volunteer leaders and teachers

- Ensure parent input to Children’s Ministry policies and practices by means of personal conversations, surveys, Parent Advisory Council, etc.

- Become acquainted with as many of the children and parents who attend Bethany as possible

- Serve as a pastoral resource for children and their families during times of crisis (i.e. death, divorce, questions regarding the Christian faith)

- Ensure childcare for all churchwide events

- Participate in professional networks, conferences, and other associations of Children’s Ministry Pastors/Directors to maintain awareness of best practices

- Develop and manage a budget for the Children’s Ministry department

- Serve as principle ambassador of Children’s Ministry to Bethany families and the community at large, through visibility and engagement on Sundays, and through regular communications (bulletins, notices, newsletters, etc.)

- Perform other ministry functions as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or Executive Director




Position requirements:


- Demonstrates a love for children and a passion for introducing them to, and growing them in, Christ

- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced theological or Biblical training preferred

- Demonstrates the virtues and qualities of a devoted follower of Jesus Christ

- Professes full agreement with the statement of faith of Bethany Community Church

- Matches the Biblical qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and Philippians 2:3-5

- Experience in directing a Children’s Ministry program serving more than 200 children per Sunday; experience with multi-site Children’s Ministries preferred

- Demonstrated success in leadership development

- Able to recruit, prepare, train, encourage, and motivate volunteers

- Familiarity with large group and small group formats

- Ability to effectively communicate and work with church leadership, volunteers, and parents, both publicly and privately

- Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Self-directed; demonstrates entrepreneurial problem-solving capacity

- Able to identify, recruit, and encourage those gifted and called to minister to children

- Able to comfortably step into a classroom and participate effectively in a direct instructional or support role

- Able to make a positive contribution to a staff culture that aspires to excellence, teamwork, customer service, and the ethics of servant leadership demonstrated by Christ






Specifications:


- Full-time (40 hours per week)

- Full medical and dental health insurance, auto and expense account, continuing education reimbursement, and other benefits as outlined in the BCC employee handbook

- Salary dependent upon qualifications

- FLSA status: exempt
